Replace your Mickey Mouse ear mirrors

I got tired of flicking my head back and forth to view the stock inefficient, round mirrors on my K1200RS.  They are just too far outside my normal field of view.

I sought out some replacements that would mount on the fairing, like most sport bikes have. I eventually decide upon aftermarket mirrors intended for the Honda CBR600F4. They were Emgo models 20-87021 (right) and 20-87022 (left), and cost ~ $25 each.

I then mounted these to the upper section of the windscreen frame. It is necessary to remove the rear cover of the upright section and drill 2 6mm holes. You need to locate these holes carefully so they do not interfere with the windscreen pivot bracket.

It is now much easier to see what's behind you now without rotating your head back and forth. The field of view is very good, giving you a full view of cars within 2 car lengths of you. Half of the image is of your shoulder, but you still get an excellent view of the road and lanes behind you. I added a convex mirror to the unused inner section, and now have a comprehensive, blind-spot-free view of everything that's behind and beside me at a glance.  There is a small amount of vibration at idle, but this disappears once you start moving. The image is quite stable at highway speeds.

I highly recommend this modification. I am now much more confident that I know what is around me on the road.

The result is a much cleaner, more modern look.
